Moving from primary to secondary school is a big step for every young person and one that our youth workers are able to help feel less daunting.
This year, LYP has worked in seven primary schools across Leatherhead and Bookham to help year 6s feel more prepared, confident and less worried about the move to secondary school. This support included:
- Delivering assemblies in seven primary schools
- Running targeted group work sessions for 37 young people in four schools
- Taking part in year 6 taster days at two secondary schools
- Providing a lunchtime club throughout year 6 in a local primary school
- Running a year 6 taster session for BFree youth cafe
- Supporting year 7s through group sessions at one secondary school
Since September, our youth cafes BFree and BYouth are seeing an average of 37 young people per session, including a great number of new year 7s who are settling in well at both youth cafes.
