The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

TopThe Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Duke of Edinburgh involves young people undertaking a SKILL, a SPORT and VOLUNTEERING. Two of these sections they do for an hour per week for three months, and one they do for an hour per week for six months. They can choose which they prefer. The award then ends with outdoor training, a practice and a final EXPEDITION which all young people must complete.

  • An example BRONZE award could look like this…

  • Learning fire fighting SKILLS an hour a week for three months at the local fire station

  • VOLUNTEERING an hour a week for three months at a charity shop

  • Swimming lessons for SPORT an hour a week for six months with a local sports centre

  • Training, a practice and then a final EXPEDITION on the Surrey Downs (map reading, camping, cooking for themselves etc)

Young people are encouraged to find their own section activities with the help of parents/guardians, although LYP will also be offering different opportunities and will point young people in the right direction through regular contact.
