You can find it in your local youth centres, libraries, schools and ONLINE HERE.
TWENTY THREE young people aged 11- 18 have contributed to our third edition.

180 MAGAZINE 2nd Edition OUT NOW!

Our 2nd Edition of ONE EIGHTY Magazine (Winter 2011) is out now! We have had 22 young people contributing to articles, artwork and interviews. The Winter edition looks at local stories around the topics of Homelessness, Young mums, Christmas and Being a Teenager. We have also started our 180 training program, which is currently training young people to Design ONE EIGHTY.

We are always looking for interesting local stories and to partner with local people and organisations, so if you’re interested please do not hesitate to get in contact.

ASPIRE NEET Course

Leatherhead Youth Project are pleased to announce a partnership with Surrey Care Trust to deliver the ASPIRE Course. ASPIRE is a course for 16-19 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) . Working with NEET young people in our community is a very important part in LYP’s work, and we look forward to working in partnership with Surrey Care Trust on this project.

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Leatherhead Youth Project became a centre for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for the first time this year. After nine months, we’ve just seen five of our young people achieve their Bronze, and a further two receive sectional certificates. They’ve undertaken a skill, sport and volunteering for a period of up to six months and then outdoor skills training, a practice and a final expedition. It’s been tough going and a real achievement for them all. Now they have skills including cooking and food hygiene, first aid and camp craft under their belts, and they’ve spent time volunteering in local care homes and helping this community. Having the Bronze Award is fantastic for future employment and we look forward to seeing our young people go on to do their Silver next year.

ONE EIGHTY Magazine Launch

We’re excited to announce the launch of ONE EIGHTY Magazine! A new magazine for young people by young people in Mole Valley.

ONE EIGHTY provides an opportunity for young people to be part of something positive, sharing their interests and gaining valuable work experience along the way. ONE EIGHTY also develops existing or unexplored talents and gives young people a sense of confidence in their own ability. It’s good for the local community to realise how much our young people have to offer.

The first edition includes articles, artwork, photography and reviews, all submitted by over twenty young people and volunteers connected to LYP. Our vision is for ONE EIGHTY Magazine to develop until it’s entirely led by young people, from content to design and editing.

We wouldn’t be able to develop projects like ONE EIGHTY without your generous support. With your help we can continue to transform young people’s lives during this financially difficult period, and change our local community for the better.

MTB Resdential

Last weekend saw our annual MTB residential to the New Forest. A team of 19 young people and volunteers all keen cyclists took to the road once we arrived at our camp. Over the weekend we cycled 40 miles through the new forest, stopping for breaks at ice cream shops, lookout points and the beach. On the Saturday evening we had a smashing BBQ and played team gamed around the camp fire. It was another great success, all the young people and volunteers really enjoyed it – even cycling in the rain!!

DofE Final Expedition

Last weekend our Duke of Edinburgh group joined forces with Ashtead YDS’s group to complete their Final Expedition, qualifying them for their Bronze Award! It’s been an exciting journey for all involved, with new skills and sports learnt, and lots of volunteering done. Our young people did brilliantly in the last stages of Bronze, going through their outdoor skills training, and the practice and final expeditions with lots of determination! The final expedition took place on Boxhill and Banstead Heath where young people navigated their way successfully, pitching tents at High Ashurst camp ground, and cooking their own meals with food they’d chosen. Big thanks to our volunteers who helped make it a great experience for all involved.

North Leatherhead Neighbours Day 2011

Last Thursday North Leatherhead Neighbours Day took place on Kingston Road Recreation Ground . It was a GREAT success with over THREE HUNDRED people attending.
Over TWO HUNDRED burgers and sausages and FOUR HUNDRED rolls were given away! More than 50 Children’s faces were painted, young people played football non stop, and jumped up and down all afternoon on the bouncy castle. The youngest children got messy in the messy play area and visited the fire engine and police van. Dozens of people had a caricature drawn, we all listened to great live music and visited various interesting stands whilst taking part in the raffle, the running races, tug of war and of course everyone bathed in the beautiful sunshine!

It had a great community feel and all our local residents seemed to have a great time!

NLND was run by Leatherhead Youth Project and various other partners including, Mole Valley Housing Association, Liquid Connection, B@itude, Trinity School, The WEA, Surrey Police and The Fire Services.
